43rd Session of the UNESCO General Conference

President Signs Resolution on Preparations for Hosting the 43rd Session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand.

 

On March 15, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a resolution on preparations for hosting the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Samarkand. The organizing committee will be chaired by the Prime Minister. Various events will be organized, souvenirs will be produced, and a campaign will be conducted to promote Uzbekistan abroad. In 2025, Samarkand will host the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference—the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. The decision was made during the previous session held in November 2023.

The 43rd General Conference of UNESCO is scheduled to take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in 2025. This marks a historic moment as it will be the first time the event is held in Uzbekistan and the first time outside UNESCO's Paris headquarters since 1985. The conference, which brings together representatives from all UNESCO member states and numerous organizations, plays a critical role in setting UNESCO's strategic priorities.

Preparations for the conference include significant investments in infrastructure, cultural promotions, and events to highlight Uzbekistan's rich history and heritage. Key initiatives involve the development of modern facilities at the Silk Road Samarkand complex, media campaigns showcasing Uzbekistan's contributions to global culture, and the organization of cultural exhibitions across various cities like Samarkand, Tashkent, and Bukhara.

The 43rd General Conference of UNESCO, which will take place in 2025 in Samarkand, is being organized by the Government of Uzbekistan and the UNESCO General Commission. The Fund for the Development of Culture and Art has been appointed as the working body responsible for the event.

To prepare for the conference, several restoration projects are planned for cultural heritage sites, including the restoration of the Bibi-Khanym Mosque and Amir Temur's Gardens. Additionally, the establishment of the State Museum of the Great Silk Road is planned, along with the release of commemorative coins and postage stamps. The event will also feature thematic exhibitions, information campaigns, and media projects aimed at highlighting the international significance of the conference.

The 43rd General Conference of UNESCO is officially scheduled to be held at the Silk Road Samarkand Congress Hall in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in 2025. This state-of-the-art venue, part of the Silk Road Samarkand complex, was selected due to its advanced infrastructure and the cultural and historical significance of Samarkand, a key city along the ancient Silk Road.

The Congress Hall offers facilities capable of hosting large-scale international events, including a main hall for up to 3,500 participants and various meeting spaces tailored for high-level discussions. This will mark the first time Uzbekistan hosts a UNESCO General Conference, further highlighting the country's commitment to cultural diplomacy and international collaboration.
